Cardiff Design Festival
October
A programme of events takes place in Cardiff in-
October every year to celebrate design talent in-
Wales.
Organisers of the festival say its mission is to-
ensure that the skills and passion of designers are-
recognised and valued by business and the public. It has-
been running for six years.
Events aim to demonstrate how-
design affects everyday life in the objects we use all the-
time – everything from our beds to our cereal-
packets.
The festival includes a list of talks, exhibitions-
and events over a period of about two weeks. There is also-
an awards evening, which is held in a different venue every-
year. Winners in the past have been a floating office,-
branding for a company of accountants, TV event branding, an-
interior scheme for a ski chalet, an environmental-
animation, a ‘cradle to cradle’ office chair, an-
interactive big picture, beer bottle branding and a half-
marathon website.

Great Welsh Beer and Cider Festival
June 2012
Beer and cider drinkers enjoy a giant pub for-
three days in the city for the annual Great Welsh Beer and-
Cider Festival.
Motorpoint Arena is transformed into a huge-
tasting arena and sees enthusiasts enjoying more than 160-
real ales.
Around 35 real ale breweries from Wales are-
represented at the event and there are at least 40 different-
ciders, ales from across the UK and many foreign beers on-
offer.
Stalls also sell food, soft drinks and beer bits and-
bobs such as t-shirts, beer towels and badges.
The Champion-
Beer of Wales competition is a highlight of the festival and-
the winner of this is traditionally announced on the Friday-
afternoon.
The event is kept quiet on the Thursday evening-
and then live music from a line-up of local talent takes-
place on the Friday and Saturday evenings.
The festival is-
organised by the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA).

Joust!
June 2012
Cardiff Castle is the appropriate backdrop for a-
weekend of medieval-themed events known as Joust!
One of-
the highlights of the annual event is the realistic jousting-
tournament, in which The Knights of Royal England ride into-
the arena on horseback and battle it out. The show includes-
horseback stunts, spectacular falls and a bit of humour.-
Audiences cheer for their favourite knight and lances-
splinter during the action – billed as a rip-roaring-
medieval adventure.
Children are invited to go along in-
their own costumes and take part in a parade and everyone in-
the crowd is invited to join in a re-enactment of the Battle-
of Agincourt.
The weekend also includes storytelling,-
juggling, a sword-fighting school and a medieval encampment.-
There is a chance to learn some junior jousting skills and-
take part in a children’s drill.
The Joust! event is-
always a popular day out for families and advance booking is-
recommended.
