  Castles History in short!!

Fit for the Queen!! Castles history…….

Castles a firm with roots going back nearly 174 years and with more than 50 years in the fitted kitchen & furniture trade, began life dismantling wooden sailing ships in the 19th Century when the Castle family was involved initially in London. The timber from the broken ships was then either sold on or recycled to build new boats and to even make garden furniture and the like, from which Castles can boast links to supplying the famous All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon & QueenVictoria as some of its previous customers of its furniture!!Castle’s London shipyards closed just before the Second World War and then joint owner Major William Ball, a Plymothian, relocated the entire business to Plymouth with Sidney Castle, grandson of the founder of the company opening the Plymouth shipyard at Cattedown in 1919 where HMS Defiance, the last sailing ship to fly the white ensign, was broken up in the 1930s.
